Outstanding senior and soon-to-be UM Computer Science graduate student Rutger Evans is heading to England. He’ll spend almost three months this summer performing research at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), located a few miles down the road from Cambridge, UK.
In this position, Rutger will develop methods in protein sequence comparison, primarily focussed on InterPro, a consortium of 11 different protein family databases. We’re excited for Rutger, and think it’ll be a great opportunity to extend the work he’s been doing on sequence comparison in HMMER, here at the University of Montana.
While in the the other side of the pond, Rutger will travel to Dublin to attend the 23rd Annual International Conference of Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology (ISMB), the premier conference on computational biology.
